Why Kashmir is Called Paradise on Earth — And Why You Must Visit

By My TravonMay 15, 20256 min read

Emperor Jahangir reportedly said, 'If there is paradise on earth, it is this, it is this, it is this' — and centuries later, Kashmir still lives up to every word. From the serene Dal Lake to the snow-covered meadows of Gulmarg, Kashmir is a destination that stays with you forever.

Dal Lake — The Jewel of Srinagar

A shikara ride on Dal Lake at sunrise is one of those experiences you'll never forget. The floating flower markets, the ornate houseboats, and the Mughal gardens along the banks create a scene straight out of a painting. We recommend spending at least one night on a houseboat — it's a quintessential Kashmir experience.

Gulmarg — The Meadow of Flowers

Gulmarg transforms with the seasons. In winter (December-March), it becomes India's premier skiing destination. In summer, it's a lush green meadow with wildflowers and the world's second-highest cable car (Gondola) offering panoramic views of the Himalayas. The Gondola ride to Phase 2 at 13,780 feet is absolutely worth it.

Pahalgam — The Valley of Shepherds

Pahalgam is where you go to escape everything. Betaab Valley (named after the Bollywood film), Aru Valley, and Chandanwari offer some of the most scenic landscapes in India. The Lidder River flowing through the valley is perfect for a picnic or a lazy afternoon. It's also the base camp for the Amarnath Yatra.

Safety and Travel Tips

Kashmir is safe for tourists and has been welcoming travelers for years. The locals are incredibly hospitable. A few tips: always carry warm layers even in summer (evenings get chilly), negotiate prices for shikaras and ponies before boarding, try the authentic Wazwan cuisine, and carry cash as card acceptance can be limited in smaller areas.

Plan Your Kashmir Trip

Our Kashmir Family Special (5N/6D) covers Srinagar, Sonmarg, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam starting at ₹22,999 per person. It includes a houseboat stay, all transfers, and daily breakfast and dinner. The best time to visit is March-June for spring/summer or December-February for snow experiences.
